With Mexico 14 days away, and summer tour just around the bend the Dead and Company has supplied fans with a large selection of shows to be excited about, but why stop there!! The Dead and Company have announced they will be making their second festival debut when they headline Lockn' 2018.
What seems like a no-brainer, Peter Shapiro has finally got the boys booked on his biggest event of the year, Lockn. Lockn is no stranger to the Dead. Phil has played their since the beginning including last years Terrapin Station tribute with his good buddy Bob Weir. But this is the first time that the current "official" Dead project takes center stage.
While this would be a tremendous festival debut, we can't forget about the boy's appearance at the 2016 Bonnaroo festival which catapulted them into their first summer tour. Bonnaroo, even till this day was a smoker. Truckin>Smokestack>Bertha is still something I'll throw on every now and again.
Lockn Festival is what many still consider one of the last festivals that sticks true to the roots of jam. Acts like the Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Robert Plant and Phish have all shared this stage over the years. While new artist makes their way into the mix, we see more real jam bands as appose to festivals like Electric Forest who thrive off a young crowd of partiers and loud bass drops. (At least they have String Cheese!)
While the announcement had been made, detail still remain on the horizon. Will this be a multinight run? Will John, Oteil or Bobby bring their side projects into the mix? Will Phil Lesh finally play with Dead and Company ?!?!?! We have no idea .... yet. So let's do what Dead Heads do best, speculate!
Either way, happy Thursday folks!
UPDATE: The Dead and Company will be playing 2 nights with 4 sets.
