bob weir and wolf bros 2018

Around 6pm eastern time Bob Weir (@bobweir) posted an image to his Instagram with a picture of a Wolf on a California flag with the caption, “Bob Weir and Wolf Bros”. Per usual, speculation has caught wildfire among the Deadhead community; Could this be the configuration of a new band in light of an absence of Ratdog? There have also been whispers of new studio time..

The list of potential musicians that could make up this band is an extremely long one. Names that come to mind:

John Kadlecik

Leader of the John Kadlecik Band and former Furthur guitarist alongside Bobby and Phil; Weir and Kadlecik are no strangers.

Melvin Seals

Since Jerry’s passing Melvin has been a pioneer at the helm of Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin and Bobby have frequented the stage recently, too. Melvin met up with Bobby at the Jerry 75th shows last summer alongside Oteil and others.

Mickey Hart and John Mayer

Bobby, Mickey, and Mayer are booked to perform at the, “Save The Redwoods” benefit October 13 in San Francisco. The event is being advertised as the, “Party of the Century” and tickets range from $1,000 - $10,000 dollars. Perhaps The Wolf Bros are Mickey and Mayer?

Other names..

Jay Lane - A king of rhythm and one of Bobbie’s closest jam pals across the years following Garcia

Mike Gordon - Mike and Bobby have joined up for numerous sit ins across the years and Bobby joined Phish in 2016 for “West LA Fadeaway” and other tunes

Avett Brothers - Yeah, I know. But they played together at Lockn last year!

Sammy Hagar - Sammy Hagar and Bob Weir and common jam pals and frequent the minds of wild eyed tie dyed folks at Sweetwater Music Hall
